[ dabble ] The Overview Effect
/The Overview Effect is a term used to describe what it is like to look back on planet earth from space, and the perspective shift that comes from zooming out beyond all the lines that typically divide people down on the ground.
While not many of us have had, or will ever have, the chance to orbit the earth, the few that have are left with an entirely unique and awe-inspiring first hand perspective of life as it's suspended in space.
The 20 minute film below examines the idea of the overview effect by talking to some of the astronauts who have experienced it and a few philosophers who are really good at explaining it.
You should watch it...
If The Overview Effect is joy for your eyes then also check out THIS post we featured on our blog a while back showing time-lapse images shot from space. Just wow.
When you’re finally up at the moon looking back on earth, all those differences and nationalistic traits are pretty well going to blend, and you’re going to get a concept that maybe this really is one world and why the hell can’t we learn to live together like decent people.
